50 Shades of White

When you're nursing a baby, and perusing Pinterest on your phone, you sometimes get inspired for a DIY project!

Enter, inspiration:

Our realtor and friend, Renae, first suggested painting our oak cabinets white when we bought our house in 2002.  And 12 years later, I am ready to take the plunge.  Or should I say, I am ready to motivate Ben to take the plunge. ;)

At the time of this inspiration, Whitney was 5 and a half and J.R. was 6 months old, so time was not on our side.  And did we really want a disrupted kitchen to add to the chaos?!  But I eventually sold Ben on the idea of updating and brightening our kitchen.  Then we enlisted the help of Sherwin Williams to sift through the 50 shades of white that they have!  Who knew?!

We waited for the big spring paint sale at Sherwin Williams and then began the project over Memorial Day weekend!  And, now, on the eve of J.R.'s first birthday (the deadline for completing this project!), we have our new and improved kitchen cabinets!  I helped with what I could (mostly nagging encouraging), but Ben did 95% of the work (Thank you, Honey!).  And he did an awesome job!

Before view of the oak cabinets and our blue {spaceship} lights over the counter.

It never really occurred to us that the cabinets above and below the stove didnt have knobs like the rest of the cabinets, so those were added with the update!

Let the fun begin!  Obviosuly, with an approaching crawler in the house, the goal was to get those bottom cabinets back on first!  The garage was turned into the cabinet door warehouse and painting station!

Ta-da!!  The finished project!  It is amazing how much brighter it looks and feels in the kitchen now!

And now we have knobs on the cabinets above and below the stove!

We ordered all of our new "oil-rubbed bronze" hardware from e-bay and have been very pleased with it.

And the birthday-boy crawler is on the prowl!
